Child Money Hold and a Re-do

I don't often give a child 4-5 years old money for an occasion such as a birthday. Sometimes, though, there is no other choice. It never fails to make their face shine when they see a "big" number on a  bill which is such fun.

Yesterday I posted a card made with one of the Some Odd Girl images. They are sponsoring the Digital Tuesday Challenge this week. When going through their stamps, I could not choose just one to use. They are all so adorable.

Today I used the cutest dog called Lil Puppy Walks. The first thing I thought of when I saw him was a child's card. I have very few of this theme in my stash of cards so that made it the perfect choice.

I colored him very simply since that is how most child cards I have seen are. I also think that children that age associate with that type of coloring on an image. 

he he he, I love his little toy. I bought this a while ago to make a scrapbook page about my doxie. It still hasn't happened, but I found this and the bone sticker as I was going through my stash. This image was just crying for these!

Look at that big number on the bill. Wow, it has not 1 but 2 digits, lol. If I were 5 years old this bill would instantly make me feel so grown up!

Onto my RE-DO. Last Tuesday, I posted a TV Guide/magazine holder. As I said in the post, I was not happy with the image background. Since I adhered it with the very strong Scor-tap, I did not think I would be able to get it off. Well...I did! Here is the "new" one, LOL

I definitely like this much better. I used a smaller piece of wood and left off the gold "shine" around him. I also added the DAD! with a frame.

 

As you can see, the rest remained the same. I still love the charm. It seems so funny to me with the image, LOL

Being A Featured Stamper

WOW, I have never been a featured stamper before, BUT...today I am.

Spinning Up-Side-Down and Around

I love to watch squirrels play. They run, chase, jump and fly from tree to tree. They are both childlike and teenager wrapped in one little being. They are cute, smart and often destructive.

This is one of the reasons why I love the Digital Stamp Oasis images. They portray these cuties in their childlike innocence happily going about their day. At the same time, they show a teen like desire to discover the world around them in an adult like manner.

Take this little guy for example, isn't he just adorable!!! In this photo, I can picture the him on one of those rides outside the grocery store, LOL, waving as his imagination takes him to places unknown.

 

The picture on the right gives me the impression that a late teen boy is on his first solo flight and waving at his girlfriend who is anxiously waiting for it to be over. (HA HA! wouldn't all the other squirrels be jealous!!!)

Now...in these next 2 photos I see things as only a Mom could see with Dad standing next to her.

Dad is so proud of his son as he wishes he were up there with him.

Mom on the other hand is grasping at her chest certain that she is going to have a heart attack. Especially when he lets one hand off the wheel and stops watching where he is going.

Dad gently puts his arms around Mom and gives a squeeze to assure her everything is OK. She, of course, is not in the least bit convinced.

NOW...what is Mom doing??? She fell to her knees, gasping for breath as she grabs at her chest with certainty of the pending heart attack. 

Dad realizes his gentle squeeze did not work and bends over to see if she is OK...Ha ha ha...I can really picture these things and am chuckling.

This is actually a variation of a spinner card. I punched a 1/2" circle in the center of the sky layer with my Sizzix paddle punch. Then I placed a slightly larger "very flat" button under the hole. Next I attached the same type of button to the back of the plane near the center. Using a dime attached to the button on the plane with adhesive on the exposed side, I attached the dime to the button under the paper.

To attach the plane layer to the card, I had to use 3 demensionals on each corner since my flat buttons were kind of thick. You can make the same card with a smaller hole, 2 pennies and a dimensional between them, but my  hole was to bit to large. The trick to the buttons is how flat they are. Even a very slight curve on the edge will cause the space between the button and dime to stick to the edge of the hole. This should not be a problem with the pennies.

I hope this encourages you to try one of these cards. They are so fun to make.

Then and Now

 WOW, I did not get a chance to post yesterday. Just as I was going to write, my daughter came by to visit with Camden (grand baby) He is just starting to smile, what a fun age. My son also came by to visit. It is so nice that they like to visit even though our house seems to get smaller by the day, LOL. It certainly makes for a super day.

When I see the Wink Wink Ink images, I instantly see projects I want to make with them. This does not happen with many stamps I see, but WWI is one of the 2 companies that this happens to me. The other is Digital Stamp Oasis. Todays images are from Wink Wink Ink.

Aren't they so cute! If you love to layer your cards, these images are just up your alley.

As you can see, these were very easy to cut out in order to create a 3 layer image. The first is the full image, second is the head, arm and leg. The third is the nose.

I did not color the images used on this card. The precolored images are part of the "package" you get when purchasing images from Wink Wink Ink. Since I was planned on all these layers, I decided not to spend time trying to shade and blend so many images.

HINT: When I cute out images, I am not very good at keeping the boarders/black lines at an even thickness. So I take my black copic (actually any black marker will do) and run it along the edges. Where the edge is thinner, I tile the pen just a bit to make it as close to the thicker parts of the boarded. HINT inside a Hint: Don't do this after drinking 3 large cups of coffee, it can make it VERY difficult ...just ask me how I know {blush}

There is actually another reason to do this. The black marker also covers the white edges created by cutting it out.

 I also made them in 3 layers. It does make the card a bit bulky, more difficult to close, but I wanted to do it for continuity.

I also cut the heart ribbon to make the corners inside.

The heart punch used on the inside of the flaps was purchased over a year ago and I had not used it yet! I know that none of you purchase tools and then don't use them, bwaa ha ha ha

I think this makes a really cute Valentine Card to give my husband.

Ornaments galore

WOW, only 3 days until Christmas. Hard to believe that it is upon us and 2009 is almost over! As I wrote about in this post, we will be celebrating Christmas in January. Therefore, we decided to put up the tree Christmas day, LOL.

I made some ornament this year to hang on this tree during our unusual holiday season. These ornament will always remind me of the unusual but truly blessed Christmas of 2009 (2010).

A few are unusual for a Christmas tree, the dragonfly, butterfly and birds. They certainly represent Christmas this year, LOL.

I made these by adding about 20 drops of Stampin' Up re-inkers inside, swirled around until the inside was covered, then put upside down over a paper cup to let the excess drip out.

I then added some fine glitter (I found the chunky does not give good coverage), covered the hole with my thumb and shook until the inside was completely covered. Finally shaking the excess glitter out and let dry a bit before replacing the top.

I used rub-ons I found in the home decor section of the big box craft store. These are really thick rub-ons and difficult to adhere. I would definitely suggest using good quality glass ornaments as the cheaper ones broke in my hand as I rubbed. This was the most difficult part of the process, UNTIL...I found that heating the bulb first with my heat gun helps the rub-on adhere quicker and easier. If there was a stubborn section, I simply heated that section and voila...no problem.

These will make a lovely last minute gift or a gift for folks like the mailman, UPS guy...we love our UPS guy right, LOL, hairdresser, etc.

A New Litter

Do you have any pets? A dog, cat, goldfish or Llama? Most of our pets entered our lives as babies. Nothing is cuter than a baby animal. I was watching a show about blue whales on National Geographic 2 weeks ago and was surprised at how cute a baby blue whale is!

Even more exciting would be for our pet to have babies! None of my pets ever had litters...but....Once when I was baby sitting as a teen, the cat jumped onto the couch and began to give birth, right there! I was certain that the pain would cause her to bite me. Not only that, the couch was not made out of a wipe clean fabric.  I was in panic mode! Until the first little kitten appeared. Oh My Gosh! SO cute and ugly at the same time, LOL.

Animal parents love to show off the pictures of their babies as much as they show off photos of their own offspring. There is an abundance of baby animal videos all over the web, especially puppies. From personal blogs to You Tube, you can see anything from puppies nursing to panda bear babies scaring their mom by sneezing! Too FUNNY!!! And I know that I am not the only one who watches these more than once!

Well, I decided that I should make a card to congratulate new pet parents. Using the Dog Gone Stamp called Gabby and Zoey Bows I made this card:

 

Aren't they adorable! Imagine how cute they were as puppies! Awwwwww.......Tee he he I have them popped up on dimensionals sitting in the middle of a field. They are sooooo happy!

I do not have a stamp that says "Congratulations on your new litter", LOL So I made do with a simple "Congratulations".  How fun it would be for a new pet parent to receive a card like this!

I made the pattern paper by using the paw print and bone stamps from the retired Stampin' Up set called "Bow Wow". Such a totally cute set! Sometimes it is easier and faster to make my own patterned paper than it is to search through my papers for one with the perfect pattern and color. When I make my own paper, I can even add glitter, flock, embossing or anything else that might come to mind that would match the card/layout design.

It has been almost a week since I have been in my craft room! Boy...not only did I miss it, but I was so out of tune with my mojo! Lord willing that won't happen again, LOL.

Male 16th Birthday

YIKES!!! I wanted to make a birthday card for Paul's nephew who was turning 16! Well.....what kind of card do you make for a 16 year old??? 

I finally decided to just go with a masculine card and not think about his age.  Since his family spends 3 weeks each summer at the beach, I went with 2 of SU's retired sets, Schooner and Set Sail.

 

I had no idea how to make a sailors knot! I mean, really...how often does you average person tie them?? Well....that is assuming I am an average person, {{{wink}}}Teehehe

Thank goodness for Google.  I have no idea what I would do with out it! My Gosh, I even have it in my tool bar so it is always right there when I need it...which is an average of 3-4 times per computer time.

Through the magic of Google, I quickly found a video tutorial for them. How how great is that.  The one thing it did not show me was which side of the knot should show on the front of a card! Such DILEMMAS!!! And I thought card making would be easy, LOL

OK...OK....OK....for those who read yesterdays post, you know I challenged myself to only making one layer cards the rest of this month! {{{SIGH}}} I really tried...REALLY...I just could not do it.  I honestly would not have used dimensionals if it weren't for the cord used for the knot...honest! No bling though! That's a start, right???

I did join a group that is committed to making a certain amount of Christmas cards each month.  I am going to make the cards that I planned to make this past Christmas, but had run out of time.  All the card stock is cut out and they are ready for some ink and rubber.  Soooo....except for these, which I am planning on doing tomorrow....all next week my goal is to show you simple "flat" and pretty cards.
